Josiane Moukam

Josiane es defensora, mujer, madre y enfermera, originaria de Camerún y residente en Estados Unidos. Es la vicepresidenta de Espacio Migrante. Entre 2019 y 2021, residió en Tijuana, donde inicialmente fue voluntaria en Espacio Migrante como intérprete y organizadora, facilitando la comunicación con las comunidades haitianas y africanas y la organización. Posteriormente, se unió al equipo de Espacio Migrante como organizadora comunitaria, donde fue una férrea defensora de las mujeres, la infancia y la justicia alimentaria y racial. Desempeñó un papel clave en la implementación del programa de justicia alimentaria de Espacio Migrante durante y después de la pandemia de COVID-19. También tuvo un papel importante en la construcción de una red de solidaridad transfronteriza con organizadores y la comunidad negra, y con las comunidades migrantes negras que viven en Tijuana. Durante su estancia en Tijuana, coordinó y participó en proyectos culturales y artísticos, como su papel principal en la película "Maestra, Veterinaria, Astronauta", que narra la lucha de las mujeres, niños y niñas migrantes por acceder a la educación en México. También participó y coordinó programas de danza, cocina y música para la comunidad migrante. Trabajó como Coordinadora del Albergue, donde su función era velar por el bienestar de las familias migrantes.
Su amor, alegría y pasión por su trabajo y su comunidad dejaron una profunda huella en Espacio Migrante y Tijuana. Desde que se mudó a Estados Unidos, ha seguido sirviendo a Espacio Migrante como Vicepresidenta y continúa su labor de defensa de las comunidades migrantes.

Josiane is an advocate, woman, mother, and nurse, native from Cameroon, living in the United States, and is the Vice Chair of Espacio Migrante. Between 2019 to 2021, she lived in Tijuana, where she first volunteered in Espacio Migrante as an interpreter and organizer, who facilitated communication with the Haitian and African communities and the organization. Later she joined Espacio Migrante’s team as a community organizer, where she was a fierce advocate for women, children, for issues such as food justice and racial justice. She played a key role in implementing Espacio Migrante’s food justice program during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. She also had a big role in building a cross-border solidarity network with Black organizers and community, and the Black migrant communities living in Tijuana. During her stay in Tijuana, she coordinated and participated in cultural and artistic projects, such as her lead role in the film “Teacher, Veterinarian, Astronaut”, which tells the story about migrant women and children’s struggle to access education in Mexico. She also participated in and coordinated dance, cooking, and music programs for the migrant community. She also worked as the Shelter Coordinator, where her role was to safeguard the well being of the migrant families.
Her love, joy and passion for her work and her community left a big mark in Espacio Migrante and Tijuana.Since moving to the United States, she has continued to serve Espacio Migrante as the Vice-Chair, and continues her advocacy for migrant communities.
